How do I calculate the power rating of my inverter?

To calculate the published power rating you need, you must determine the total load for the AC circuit (i.e., the plug-in appliance) and then divide it by the inverter's efficiency. Determine the power consumption (in watts) for each of the appliances you plan to simultaneously power with the inverter's AC output.

How do I determine the power consumption of my inverter?

Determine the power consumption (in watts) for each of the appliances you plan to simultaneously power with the inverter's AC output. To find this value, check for tags on the appliance's plug or adapter box. If you cannot find it there, try checking the "Technical Specifications" section in the owner's manual.

How do I measure the power factor of an inverter?

You can use our WattNode meters (those that report power factor) to directly measure the inverter power factor. Alternatively, you can estimate the power factor of an inverter. This estimate may not work for all inverters, depending on their control logic and output filter circuitry.
