How many wind and solar energy resources are there in Canada?

Canada has only begun to scratch the surface of its vast and untapped wind and solar energy resources. At the end of 2024, we had 24 GW of wind energy, solar energy and energy storage installed capacity across Canada. What is Canada's solar energy capacity?

Canada’s total wind, solar and storage installed capacity is now more than 24 GW, including over 18 GW of wind, more than 4 GW of utility-scale solar, 1+ GW on-site solar, and 330 MW of energy storage. Canada’s solar energy capacity (utility-scale and onsite) grew 92% in the past 5 years (2019-2024).

How has Canada's energy sector changed over the last 5 years?

February 19, 2025 – The Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) announced that Canada’s wind, solar, and energy storage sectors have grown by 46% in the last five years, with an installed capacity of more than 24 GW at the end of 2024. CanREA released these statistics in a report marking its fifth anniversary.

How many wind energy projects are there in Canada?

Canada has 341 wind energy projects producing power across the country. Canada ranks 24th in the world for installed solar energy capacity. Canada ranks 9th in the world for installed wind energy capacity. There are nearly 96,000 onsite solar energy installations across Canada.
