What is RWE's battery storage system?

RWE has commissioned one of the largest Dutch battery storage systems in the Netherlands at its Eemshaven power station. With a total capacity of 35 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 41 megawatt hours (MWh), the battery will be used to balance power supply and demand in the Dutch power grid.

What's happening at RWE's Moerdijk power station?

At RWE’s Moerdijk power station, commissioning of its ultra-fast synthetic inertia battery energy storage system is progressing well. With an installed capacity of 7.5 MW and a storage capacity of 11 MWh, this battery is one of the first of its kind on mainland Europe to maintain grid stability, using highly innovative technology.

How many battery racks will RWE install in Eemshaven?

The company has now finalised its investment decision for a Dutch battery storage project with an installed power capacity of 35 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 41 megawatt-hours (MWh). A total of 110 lithium-ion battery racks are to be installed at RWE’s biomass plant in Eemshaven on an area of around 3,000 square metres.

Where is RWE battery storage based?

A 220-MW battery storage system is currently under construction at RWE’s Neurath and Westfalen power plants. In March, the company acquired British developer JBM Solar, with an advanced development pipeline of 2.3 gigawatts of battery storage projects. At its German opencast mines, RWE is implementing innovative PV-storage plants.
