How many 5G base stations does the EU-27 have?

The EU-27 has deployed around ten 5G base stations per million capita, whereas South Korea has rolled out around 1,500 base stations per million (by the end of 2019). The EU-27 has upgraded 1% of 4G base stations to 5G, whereas South Korea upgraded 98% (by the end of 2019).

Is 5G sluggish in Europe?

The deployment and adoption of 5G SA in Europe remain sluggish, increasing slowly from a very low base and further widening the region’s gap with North America and Asia. Spain stands out as a clear leader in 5G SA deployment, reaching an 8% Speedtest® sample share compared with the EU average of just 1.3% as of Q2 2025.

Which countries use 4G in 2019?

The share of the subscriptions using 4G networks is around 70% in Europe in 2019, significantly lower than in the US, China and South Korea, where it reaches around 90%.
