The number of the pulses per half cycle changes by applying an interrupt signal to microcontroller, which gives better results in comparison to the previous one. This is the digital technique for three phase inverter using single phase supply. The system becomes flexible by using microcontroller.

5. PIC MICROCONTROLLER PIC16F877A is an 8-bit microcontroller used to obtain the pulses for three phase inverter to drive an induction motor. It has a 25 MHz processor, 33 input/output (I/O) pins, interrupts, counters, timers, I/O ports, RAM, ROM/EPROM and PIA.

How does a 3-phase inverter drive an AC induction motor?

To drive an AC induction motor, the 3-phase inverter bridge is driven by a microcontroller’s PWM outputs, as shown in Figure 2. By changing the PWM duty cycles in a regular manner, the PWM outputs are modulated to synthesize sinusoidal waveforms (three-phase AC) across the three motor windings (Figure 3).
