How many power plants are there in Kazakhstan?

Electricity in Kazakhstan is generated by 233 power plants of various forms of ownership. As on 01 January 2025 the total installed capacity of power plants in Kazakhstan was 25,314.2 MW and available capacity is 21,034.6 MW. Power plants are classified into: nationally significant power plants, industrial power plants, regional power plants.

How many hydropower stations are there in Kazakhstan?

Hydro Power: Kazakhstan has abundant hydro resources, which are mainly concentrated in the eastern and southern parts of the country. Today, 15 large hydropower stations (>50 MW) with a total capacity of 2.25 GW account for up to 13 per cent of the country’s total generating capacity.

Official energy statistics in Kazakhstan are the responsibility of the Committee on Statistics under the Ministry of National Economy. In 2016, the energy data collection system was modified as part of modernisation efforts by the Committee on Statistics.
